ex. TROUBADOR Design no. 248B from the board of John Alden, LIBERTY was originally built for the Haskell family in Blue Hill, Maine, and was sailed by that family until 1945 and was then sold and eventually found her way to Hampton Roads, Virginia, where the current family purchased the boat in 1975 and did a major structural rebuild to the hull at that time to include new mahogany planking and Monel fastenings. She was sailed as a family yacht out on the Chesapeake and also did a cruise from the Virginia capes to Bermuda and back in 1984. In 1985, LIBERTY benefited from the application of the Vaitses system fiberglass overlay with multiple layers of fabmat applied to her hull with fastenings every 4 inches. This glass was not a cosmetic skin but structural and is up to 3/4" thick around the keel and 1/2" thick in the topsides. It has stood her well, and from 1988 to 2004 LIBERTY participated in many races and events in the Caribbean, where she was well known and received many awards. In 1996 LIBERTY was re-faired with the West System, had a complete refit in 1999 to include standing rigging with stainless steel Norseman fittings, and received new sails in 2004 and a new Perkins diesel in 2005. She is now being offered for sale by the widow of the man who owned her since 1975, and we feel she can be well recommended for one desiring a traditional schooner in this size range. All reasonable offers are encouraged. | ||
